Zoos Blues
Written by David Grossman
Performed by Mary Miche
We got lions, tigers, goats, and things
We got a camel and a wild boar
We got a popcorn, soda and ice cream stand
Take your kids the animal posterstore
You can laugh at the chimps and orangutans
Take your picture with the ape of the day
But if all these folks are having' such fun
Why am I feeling' this way?
I've got those "Zoo Blues"
On the other side of the cage
I've got those "Zoo Blues"
Workin' for the minimum wage
I think some of those monkeys are wanting' to see
The people in cages and the animals free
I've got those zoobie, zoobie, zoobie, do blues
Somebody find me the key
We've got the penguins in the penguin pool
We've got the pigs rollin' in the slop
We've got the alligators sayin' it's cold 'round here
While the polar bears sayin' it's hot
And the platypus is self analysis
Tryin' to figure out what he did
And I'm here grabbing' garbage from the ground
And throwing' it under the lid
I've got those "Zoo Blues"
On the other side of the cage
I've got those "Zoo Blues"
Workin' for the minimum wage
I think some of those monkeys are wanting' to see
The people in cages and the animals free
I've got those zoobie, zoobie, zoobie, do blues
Somebody find me the key
Instrumental
Well, the zoo keeper, he's a nice old man
He's nice, but he's gettin' slow
And pretty soon, you know
He's gonna die and if I get the key
I'm gonna let 'em all go
Elephants and hippos
Dancing' free in the streets
There isn't any way we could fail
'Cause the worst thing could happen
Be the cops coming' 'round
And throwing' 'em back in jail.
Nine Green Fingers and Nine Green Toes
Written by Jane Timberlake
Performed by Mary Miche
As I was walking' down Tiddly Tum Street
I met a monster with 13 feet
He had 3 orange eyes and his knees on his nose
He had 9 green fingers and 47 toes
He was weird, he had a purple beard
He ate snakes wrapped up in chocolate cakes
He could fly 50 mountains high
He chewed gum with his thumb
Well, as I was running from Tiddly Tum Street
I heard the pitter patter of 13 feet
I turned around, and to my surprise
I saw 3 big tears roll out of 3 orange eyes
He was sad, he was feeling' bad
No one would stay, they all just ran away
So I smiled and we played a while
Then we flew (whoosh) to the zoo.
Well, we got to the zoo and we looked all around
And we saw a new creature that the zoo had just found
It had 2 orange eyes and its knees on its nose
It had 9 green fingers and 47 toes
She was weird, she had a purple beard
She ate snakes wrapped up in chocolate cakes
She could fly 50 mountains high
She chewed gum with her thumb
Well, they flew away together and they lived happily
They had two little monsters as cute as they could be
They each had 3 orange eyes
And their knees on their nose
They had 9 green fingers and 47 toes
They were weird, they had those purple beards
They ate snakes wrapped up in chocolate cakes
They could fly just 30 mountains high
They chewed gum with their their thumbs.
Three Soul Bears
Arranged and Performed by Mary Miche
Once upon a time in a nursery rhyme
There were three bears (yeh! yeh! yeh!)
One was the papa bear
One was the mama bear
One was the bear (yeh! yeh!)
They lived in a house in the back of the woods
(yeh! yeh! yeh! yeh!)
They all went a walking' in the deep woods a talkin'
When along came the girl with the long golden curl
She knocked on the door (knock knock knock knock)
But no one was there (yeh! yeh!)
Goldilocks broke in and ate up the porridge (yeh! yeh!)
Then she started messing' up the furniture (yeh! yeh!)
Finally she sacked out on the baby's bed
(yeh! yeh! yeh! yeh!)
Along came those three bears
"Someone's been eating' my porridge"
Said the papa bear (low) and the papa bear
"Someone's been eatin' my porridge"
Said the mama bear (nice) said the mama bear
"Someone's been eatin' my porridge"
Said the baby bear (high) said the baby bear
"Hey, mama, see there," said the baby wee bear
"Someone has eaten my share!" (yeh)
"Someone's been sitting' in my chair"
Said the papa bear (low) said the papa bear
"Someone been sitting' in my chair"
Said the mama bear (nice) said the mama bear
"Someone's been sitting' in my chair"
Said the baby bear (high) said the baby bear
"Someone has broken my chair!" (yeh!)
"Someone's been sleeping in my bed"
Said the papa bear (low) said the papa bear
"Someone's been sleeping in my bear"
Said the mama bear (nice) said the mama bear
"Someone's been sleeping in my bed"
Said the baby bear (high) said the baby bear
"Hey, mama, see there," said the baby wee bear
"Look! She is sleeping right there!" (yeh!)
Goldilocks woke up and broke up the party
And she beat it outta there
(Low) And she beat it outta there
"Bye bye bye b'bye," said the papa bear
(Low) "Bye bye bye b'bye," said the papa bear
"Bye bye bye b'bye," said the mama bear
(Sweet) "Bye bye bye b'bye," said the mama bear
"Bye bye bye b'bye," said the baby bear
(High) "Bye, bye, bye, b'bye," said the baby bear
And that is the story of the three soul bear (yeh!)
The Dinosaur Song
Written by Richard Greene, Elizabeth Greene, Gunnar Madsen, and Ruth Young
Performed by Mary Miche
Dinosaurs were here and now they're gone
Nobody has seen one for a long time
Pterodactyls, brontosaurs, Tyrannosaurus rex
Isn't it interesting how the world has changed?
Dinosaurs ate plants and some ate meat
And worms and roots and things that we don't eat
Some had duckbills, some had wings
All of them laid eggs
Isn't it interesting how the world has changed?
Stegosaurus: Had two brains but was very slow
One is his tail and one in his skull
Horns and spikes all over his back
Flattened his enemies with a whack
Brachiosaurus: He was a giant 40 feet high
Feet in the swamp, head in the sky
He had his nose on top of his head
When he sneezed all the animals fled
Brontosaurus: He weighed 60 thousand pounds
Thundering footsteps shook the ground
The swamp was where he liked to stay
Day after day after day after day
Pterodactyl: Flew by gliding through the air
Animal, vegetable, he didn't care
Everything to him was lunch
Tasty treats to find and munch
But everyone hit the decks
When they saw Tyrannosaurus rex
He looked to his left, he looked to his right
Always itching for a fight, always ready for a bite
Any time, day or night, he ate everything in sight
(Scream)
But don't worry, you'll never see 'em
Unless you go with your mom and dad to the museum
'Cause dinosaurs went some place -- no one's sure
Nobody could find them anymore
Seeing just their footprints, bones and fossils
Sure is strange
Isn't it interesting how the world has changed?
Isn't it interesting how the world can change?
Isn't it interesting how the world has changed?
Al the Alligator
Written by Jane Timberlake
Performed by Mary Miche
Al the alligator needed a refrigerator
Had to go to the department store
Rode up the elevator, rode up the escalator
Rode right up to the very top floor
Al that raider alligator
Alligator raids the department store
Al that raider alligator
Alligator raids the department store
Al the alligator strapped that refrigerator
Onto his back and headed for the door
Rode down the elevator, rode down the escalator
Rode right down to the very first floor
Al that raider alligator
Alligator raids the department store
Al that raider alligator
Alligator raids the department store
Then Al the alligator packed the refrigerator
Back to the swamp and plugged it in
When the ice cubes were made
He sipped his Gatorade (slurp)
Never had to go back
To that department store again
Al that raider alligator
Alligator raids the department store
Al that raider alligator
Alligator raids the department store
Don't worry, Al the alligator
Paid for that refrigerator
Mailed fresh fish to the department store
There were fish on the elevator
Fish on the escalator
Fresh fish flopping' on every floor
Al, that honest alligator
Alligator paid the department store
(Thank a lot, Al)
Al, that honest alligator
Alligator paid the department store
If You Love a Hippopotamus
Written by Connie Kaldor
Performed by Mary Miche
If you love a hippopotamus
And you love her a lottamus
She will be your friend
And that can be mighty handy now and then
If you're stuck outside
And the door to your house won't budge
Your friend the hippo can lean on it
And give it a little nudge (bam)
If you love a hippopotamus
And you love her a lottamus
She will be your friend
And that can be mighty handy now and then
If you want a cookie and it's too high on the shelf
You can climb on the back of your hippo friend
And get one for yourself
(And one for her, too)
If you love a hippopotamus
And you love her a lottamus
She will be your friend
And that can be mighty handy now and then
When you go to bed if you find that you just can't sleep
Late at night your friend the hippo
Into your room will creep
She'll sing you a lullaby 'til you begin to snore
Then she'll tiptoe hippopotamuses out
And slam the door (bam)
If you love a hippopotamus
And you love her a lottamus
She will be your friend
And that can be mighty handy now and then
Chuck: "Oh! That's the end! Ha ha ha ha!
Boom Boom It's Great to Be Crazy
Traditional song Performed by Mary Miche
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be nuts like us
Silly and foolish all day long
Boom, boom ain't it great to be crazy.
Way down South where bananas grow
An ant stepped on an elephant's toe
The elephant said, with tears in his eyes,
Why don't you pick on someone your own size?
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be nuts like us
Silly and foolish all day long
Boom, boom ain't it great to be crazy.
A horsie and a flea and three blind mice
Sat on a curbstone shooting dice
The horsie and slipped and tell on the flea
"Oops" said the flea, "there's a horsie on me!"
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be nuts like us
Silly and foolish all day long
Boom, boom ain't it great to be crazy.
Instrumental
Way up North where there's ice and snow
There lived a penguin, his name was Joe
He got so tired of black and white
He wore pink pants to the dance last night!
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be nuts like us
Silly and foolish all day long
Boom, boom ain't it great to be crazy.
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy
Boom, boom, ain't it great to be nuts like us
Silly and foolish all day long
Boom, boom ain't it great to be crazy.
My Rhinoceros
Written by Ed Lipton
Performed by Mary Miche
My rhinoceros likes doughnuts
And he eats them night and morn
But he doesn't have any pockets
So he carries them on his horn
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
He has such a beautiful smile
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
But he smiles only only once in a while
My rhinoceros gets hungry
But he will not eat brown bread
And when you tell him he has to
He tries to hide under the bed
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
He has such a beautiful smile
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
But he smiles only only once in a while
My rhinoceros gets dirty
And Mama tells him to scrub
But there's no room for the water
When he gets into the tub
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
He has such a beautiful smile
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
But he smiles only only once in a while
My rhinoceros gets sleepy
And he has a take a nap
But first you must read him a story
And let him sit on your lap
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
He has such a beautiful smile
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
But he smiles only only once in a while
My rhinoceros likes doughnuts
And he eats them night and morn
But he doesn't have any pockets
So he carries them on his horn
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
He has such a beautiful smile
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
But he smiles only only once in a while
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
He has such a beautiful smile
My rhinoceros, my rhinoceros
But he smiles only only once in a while
Puff the Magic Dragon
Written by Leonard Lipton & Peter Yarrow
Performed by Mary Miche
Puff the magic dragon lived by the area
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honalee
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff
And brought him string and sealing wax
And other fancy stuff
Puff the magic dragon lived by the area
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honalee
Puff the magic dragon lived by the area
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honalee
Together they would travel
On a boat with billowed sails
Jackie kept a look out
Perched on Puff's a gigantic tail
Noble kings and princes would bow
When e'er they came
Pirate ships would lower their flags
When Puff roared out his name
Puff the magic dragon lived by the area
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honalee
Puff the magic dragon lived by the area
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honalee
A dragon lives forever
But not so little boys
Painted rings and giant wings
Make for way it happened
Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon
He ceased his fearless roar
Puff the magic dragon lived by the area
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honalee
Puff the magic dragon lived by the area
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honalee
His head was bent in sorrow
Green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play
Along the Cherry Lane
Without his lifelong friend
Puff could not be brave
So Puff that mighty dragon
Sadly slipped into his cave
Puff the magic dragon lived by the area
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honalee
Puff the magic dragon lived by the area
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honalee
Going to the Zoo
Written by Tom Paxton
Performed by Mary Miche
Daddy's takin' us to the zoo tomorrow,
Zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow
Daddy's takin' us to the zoo tomorrow
And we can stay all day
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
See the elephant with its long trunk swingin'
Snuffin' up peanuts with its long trunk swingin'
Begin' for food with its long trunk swingin'
And we can stay all day
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
See the giraffe with the great big long neck
Eatin' all the leaves at the top of the trees
Take a good look, he's got a purple tongue
And we can stay all day
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
See the giraffe with the great big long neck
Eatin' all the leaves at the top of the trees
Take a good look, he's got a purple tongue
And we can stay all day
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
See all the monkeys Skritch, Skritch, skratchin'
Jumping' around and skritch, skritch, skratchin
Hangin' by their long tails and skritch, skritch, skratchin
And we can stay all day
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
There's a big black bear, he's a huff, huff, a puffin'
His cost's too heavy and he's huff, huff, a puffin'
Don't get too near his huff, huff, puffin'
Or you won't stay all day
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
Well the seals in the pool all honk, honk, honkin'
Catchin' lots of fish and honk, honk, honkin'
Little tiny seals all honk, honk, honkin'
And we can stay all day
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
See all the tigers in the zoo
They scare me -- don't they scare you?
You'll never know just what they'll do
Those tigers in the zoo
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
See all the birdies cruising' around
Flyin' down, gettin' for off the ground
You better watch out, they'll swoop on down
Then we can't stay all day
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
Hey, Mommy, will you take us to the zoo tomorrow?
Mommy's takin' us to the zoo tomorrow
Zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow
Mommy's takin' us to zoo tomorrow
And we can stay all day.
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
My Kitty Kat
Written by Gary Lapow
Performed by Mary Miche
My kitty cat, oh my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can
Yeh, well, he's my kitty cat, oh, my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can.
Well, let me tell you 'bout my kitty cat
He likes to wear a top hat
He carries 'round a mouse trap
In the pocket of his jeans
He likes to go out dancin'
Every evening he's romancin'
He parts his fur and combs it fancy
And gets up on a fence and sings
You ought to hear him purr
The kitties come from near and far
He charms the fleas right off their fur!
My kitty cat can really sing!
Oh oh oh kitty cat, oh, oh my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can
Yeh, well, he's my kitty cat, oh, my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can.
Let me tell you 'bout my kitty cat
He walked into a laundromat.
He took a little cat nap on top of a machine
He dreamed about his soft fur
Washin' in the water
It got fluffed up in the dryer
And came out smelling' nice and clean
Yeh, my kitty cat, oh my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can
Oh oh oh, well, he's my kitty cat, oh, my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can.
Yeh, my kitty cat, oh, oh my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can
Yeh, well, he's my kitty cat, oh, my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can.
Come on, tell me 'bout it
(One verse Instrumental)
My kitty cat, oh, oh my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can
Yeh, he's my kitty cat, oh, my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can.
He's my kitty cat, oh, oh my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can
Yeh, well, he's my kitty cat, oh, my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can.
Well, he hopped into a city bus
And took off in a great rush
He left behind a cloud of dust
Soon as the light was turning' green
My kitty went on downtown
To catch a movie and to walk around
He ate dinner at a fancy restaurant
And brought a doggie bag home to me
Oh oh oh, my kitty cat, oh, oh my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can
Oh oh oh, he's my kitty cat, oh, my little kitty cat
No other cat can get down like my kitty cat can.
(He's such a cool kitty)
Cool, cool, cool kitty cat
Cool, cool, cool kitty cat
Cool, cool, my kitty cat can.
Cool, cool, cool kitty cat
Cool, cool, cool kitty cat
Cool, cool, my kitty cat can.
(He's such a cool kitty)
Cool, cool, cool kitty cat
Cool, cool, cool kitty cat
Cool, cool, my kitty cat can.
My Dog Named Cat
Written by Barry Louis Polisar
Performed by Mary Miche
I've got a dog and my dog's name is Cat
Bet you never heard a thing half as crazy as that
But not only that, I've got a cat
My cat's name is Dog, like my dog's name is Cat.
Now with my dog Cat and my cat Dog
I confuse who's who, the cat or the dog
But if you think that's pretty absurd
Wait 'til you hear about my fish, Bird
I've got a dog and my dog's name is Cat
Bet you never heard a thing half as crazy as that
But not only that, I've got a cat
My cat's name is Dog, like my dog's name is Cat.
Now my fish Bird lives in my fish tank
Next to my pet goose who goes, "Hank, hank"
But listen to me and just hear this
I've got a third and I call him Fish
I've got a dog and my dog's name is Cat
Bet you never heard a thing half as crazy as that
But not only that, I've got a cat
My cat's name is Dog, like my dog's name is Cat.
With my goose, my bird, my dog, fish, and cat
People all stare when I tip my hat
'Cause it's strange as can be when we walk in the park
Stranger still when the cat starts to bark
I've got a dog and my dog's name is Cat
Bet you never heard a thing half as crazy as that
But not only that, I've got a cat
My cat's name is Dog, like my dog's name is Cat.
Repeat Chorus faster and faster
High Hopes
Written by Jimmy Van Heusen & Sammy Cahn
Performed by Mary Miche
Once there was a silly old ant
Thought he'd move a rubber tree plant
Every one knows an ant can't
Move a rubber tree plant
But he had high hopes
He had high hopes
He had high apple-pie-in-the-sky hopes
So anytime you're feeling' bad
Kinda feeling' sad
Just remember that ant
Oops, there goes another rubber tree
Oops, there goes another rubber tree
Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant.
Once there was a silly old ram
Thought he'd punch a hole in a dam
Everyone knows a ram
Can't punch a hole in a dam
But he had high hopes
He had high hopes
He had high apple-pie-in-the-sky hopes
So anytime you're feeling' bad
Kinda feeling' sad
Just remember that ram
Oops, there goes another a million kilowatt
Oops, there goes another a million kilowatt
Oops, there goes another million kilowatt dam.
Once there was a dairy cow
Thought she'd eat your shirt right now
Everyone knows a cow can't
Eat your shirt, right now!
But he had high hopes
He had high hopes
He had high apple-pie-in-the-sky hopes
So anytime you're feeling' bad
Kinda feeling' sad
Just remember that cow
Oops, there goes another blue and green
Oops, there goes another red and white
Oops, there goes another shirt right now.
Once there was a silly old hog
Thought he'd fly around in a log
Everyone knows that hogs don't
Fly around in logs!
But he had high hopes
He had high hopes
He had high apple-pie-in-the-sky hopes
So anytime you're feeling' bad
Kinda feeling' sad
Just remember that hog
Oops, there goes another flying
Oops, there goes another flying
Oops, there goes another hog in a log.

Our Dog Bernard
Written by Barry Louis Polisar

Our dog Bernard lived in the backyard
Until one warn July day
When my dog Bernard who lived in the backyard
Decided to run away.
He left a note taped to the front door
"I'm tired of this life," he said
"I'm tired of eatin' dog food! Blech!
And gettin' chased off of the bed."
Our dog Bernard lived in the backyard
Until one warn July day
When my dog Bernard who lived in the backyard
Decided to run away.
He ran off with the milkman
And is living with him now, I hear
Spends his nights down at Doggie Diner
Eatin' hotdogs and drinkin' root beer
Our dog Bernard lived in the backyard
Until one warn July day
When my dog Bernard who lived in the backyard
Decided to run away.
He's living' in a Jersey dog house
He's goin' to the dogs I fear
Hangs around railroads and truck stops
Sends us a Christmas card every year
Our dog Bernard lived in the backyard
Until one warn July day
When my dog Bernard who lived in the backyard
Decided to run away.
Bernard, Bernard, please come back
Bernard, you know that I love you
I'll let you ride in the Cadillac
I'll make it all up to you.

If you want you hen to cackle
Listen, Mr. Macklehackle, here's how, oh yea
Just tell your hen some chicken jokes
It usually works on feathery folks
Oh yea, oh yea
Jokes that make her yuck and cackle

Oh, I wanna be a dog
Wanna wag my tail
Chase cars and knock over garbage cans
Bark at the man who brings the mail
Oh, I wanna be a dog
Wanna drool on the floor
Chase squirrels and cats, run away from rats
Chew your shoes and bark at the door
Oh, I wanna be a dog
I wanna big wet nose
I wanna run in the street get mud on my feet
And jump up on your clothes
Instrumental
Oh, I wanna be a dog
And wake the neighbors, too
I'll lick your hand, be the best friend to man
Don't have nothin' better to do
Oh, I wanna have dog breath
I wanna learn to growl (growl)
Scratch fleas and ticks, and run after sticks
I want the moon to make me howl (howl)

I wanna sleep on the ground
Being human these days is gettin' too crazy
I just wanna be a hound
Oh, I wanna a dog
I want my nose to be wet
I've got a college degree, but all I wanna be
Is somebody else's pet.

Stewball
Arranged & Performed by Mary Miche
Stewball was a racehorse
And I wish he were mine
He never drank water
He always drank wine
His bridle was silver
His mane, it was gold
And the worth of his saddle
Has never been told
Stewball was a racehorse
And I wish he were mine
He never drank water
He always drank milk
I rode him in England
I rode him in Spain
And I never did loose
I always did gain
Stewball was a racehorse
And I wish he were mine
He never drank water
He always drank orange juice
The fair, it was crowded
And Stewball was there
But the betting was heavy
On the bay and the mare
Stewball was a racehorse
And I wish he were mine
He never drank water
He always drank gingerale
The grey mare, she stumbled
And the bay did fall
But a way out ahead
Came my noble Stewball
Stewball was a racehorse
And I wish he were mine
He never drank water
He always drank rootbeer
A way out yonder
Ahead of them all
Came a dancing' and prancin'
My noble stewball
Stewball was a racehorse
And I wish he were mine
He never drank water
He always drank mouthwash
