Earthy Tunes Lyrics
Animal Party
Written by Jane Timberlake
Performed by Mary Miche

When I came home last Saturday night
I swear this is the truth
There were animals popping' out the chimney tops
There were animals dancing' on the roof

Animal Party at my house,
Dressed in feathers and scales and furs
Animals Party at my house,
Maybe next time they'll pick yours

Well I went inside and I nearly died
At the sight that met my eyes
There were animals dancing' low and high
You can imagine my surprise

Animal Party at my house,
Dressed in feathers and scales and furs
Animals Party at my house,
Maybe next time they'll pick yours

There were buffalo stampeding' up and down the stairs
And penguins cluttering' the floor
And the elephants were squashing' all the chairs
And woodpeckers peckin' on the door

Animal Party at my house,
Dressed in feathers and scales and furs
Animals Party at my house,
Maybe next time they'll pick yours

And they stomped and they fluttered and
They butted and they strayed
And they made a big mess on the floor
And they honked and they whistled and
They bleated and they brayed
And in came more and more

Animal Party at my house,
Dressed in feathers and scales and furs
Animals Party at my house,
Maybe next time they'll pick yours

Well I knew that cenrtainly my Mom and Dad
Would scream and yell and shout
If they knew the house was wrecked so bad
So I ordered them all out

Animal Party at my house,
Dressed in feathers and scales and furs
Animals Party at my house,
Maybe next time they'll pick yours

Then I spent all night cleaning' up the mess
I was tired and angry and sore.
And I worked and worked and I did my best
When my parents came in the door.

Animal Party at my house,
Dressed in feathers and scales and furs
Animals Party at my house,
Maybe next time they'll pick yours

And they came in my room and they yelled at me
To get up out of bed
So I begged and I pleaded and I said, "Sorry."
"Hey, it was only a dream," they said.

Animal Party at my house,
Dressed in feathers and scales and furs
Animals Party at my house,
Maybe next time they'll pick yours
Spiders and Snakes
Written by Gary Aslerod
Performed by Mary Miche

Spiders and snakes, spiders and snakes
I'm gonna learn to love them,
No matter how long it takes.
Spiders and snakes, spiders and snakes
I'm gonna learn to love them,
No matter how long it takes.

Some makes eat insects, some eat rodents too
If they're in your garden, they're probably helping you
Most snakes won't bite anyone, of course there's some that do
But if you do not bother them, they will not bother you.

Spiders and snakes, spiders and snakes
I'm gonna learn to love them,
No matter how long it takes.
Spiders and snakes, spiders and snakes
I'm gonna learn to love them,
No matter how long it takes.

Spiders catch flies in their webs this is what I've been taught
Some of the strands are sticky and some of them are not
Spiders have eight legs, they have eight eyes too
They'd rather munch on insects than taking a bite of you

Spiders and snakes, spiders and snakes
I'm gonna learn to love them,
No matter how long it takes.
Spiders and snakes, spiders and snakes
I'm gonna learn to love them,
No matter how long it takes.

Instrumental

Some people don't like spiders, some don't even like snakes
But if they knew how important they were
What a difference that would make.

Spiders and snakes, spiders and snakes
I'm gonna learn to love them,
No matter how long it takes.
Spiders and snakes, spiders and snakes
I'm gonna learn to love them,
No matter how long it takes.
Banana Slug
Written by Steve Van Zandt
Performed by Mary Miche

Short Explanation: Banana slugs are native to the California redwoods. They are usually 2-3 inches long and yellow in color. Look for one if you ever visit California.

Banana slug. Banana slug
When some people see you they say. "ugh"
Banana Slug, Banana Slug
When I see you, I'll give you a hug

Sticky as peanut butter, shade of yellow
Looks like a banana but oh so mellow
Good life giver living' on the ground
Chewing' on leaves when they fall down.

Banana slug. Banana slug
When some people see you they say. "ugh"
Banana Slug, Banana Slug
When I see you, I'll give you a hug

On the side of their head there's an all-purpose hole
They've got one foot, but plenty of soul
All day long they work and toil
Munchin' down leaves to renew the soil.

Banana slug. Banana slug
When some people see you they say. "ugh"
Banana Slug, Banana Slug
When I see you, I'll give you a hug

They make soil to grow new trees
Trees makes air for us to breathe
They're part of the circle that makes things grow
So be kind to banana slugs and let them.

Banana slug. Banana slug
When some people see you they say. "ugh"
Banana Slug, Banana Slug
When I see you, I'll give you a hug

Instrumental

Banana slug. Banana slug
When some people see you they say. "ugh"
Banana Slug, Banana Slug
When I see you, I'll give you a hug

If you're walking' down the path and you are a slug
You can bend over and give it a hug
You can pick it up, it won't bite or hiss
Show that you love it and give it a kiss.

Banana slug. Banana slug
When some people see you they say. "ugh"
Banana Slug, Banana Slug
When I see you, I'll give you a hug
You Can't Make A Turtle Come Out
Written by Malvina Reynolds
Performed by Mary Miche

You can't make a turtle come out
You can't make a turtle come out
You can call him or coax him
Or shake him or shout
But you can't make a turtle come out, come out
You can't make a turtle come out, come out
You can't make a turtle come out

If he wants to stay in his shell
If he wants to stay in his shell
You can knock on the door
But you can't ring the bell
Oh you can't make a turtle come out, come out
You can't make a turtle come out

So be kind to your reptile friends
Be kind to your reptile friends
A poke makes a turtle retreat at both ends
So you can't make a turtle come out, come out
You can't make a turtle come out

So you'll have to patiently wait
So you'll have to patiently wait
And when he gets ready
He'll open the gate
But you can't make a turtle come out, come out
You can't make a turtle come out

And when you forget that he's there
And when you forget that he's there
He'll be walking' around with his head in the air
But you can't make a turtle come out, come out
You can't make a turtle come out

Little Skunk
Written & Performed by Mary Miche

Well I stuck my head in a little skunk's hold
And the little skunk said, "Well, Bless my soul!"
"Take it out, take it out, take it out, Remove it!"

Well I didn't take it out so the little skunk said,
"You better take it out or you'll wish you were dead!"
"Take it out, take it out, take it out, Remove it!"

Well I didn't take it out so the little skunk said,
"You better take it out or you'll wish you were dead!"
"Take it out, take it out, take it out, Remove it!"

Well I didn't take it out so the little skunk said,
"You better take it out or you'll wish you were dead!"
"Take it out, take it out, take it out, Remove it!"

Well I didn't take it out so the little skunk said,
"Now you're gonna take it out and you'll wish you were dead!"
"Take it out, take it out, take it out, Renew it!"

Ooo I removed it, and I wished I was dead!
Little Birdies
Written & Performed by Mary Miche

Way up in the sky, the little birds fly
Way down in the next, the little birds rest
With a wing on the left and a wing on the right
The little birds sleep all through the night
Shhh, they're sleeping
The big sun comes up, the dew falls away
Good morning, good morning the little birds say.
Bug Bites
Written & Performed by Mary Miche

All the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could
Yes all the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could

I went down to sit next to the stream
I fell asleep, dreamt a beautiful dream
Then I awoke with a slap and said "heck"
Cause there was a mosquito biting my neck

All the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could
Yes all the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could

I was playing at my friends house
Running around, playing cat and mouse
After we played, we were watching TV
When all of a sudden a flea bit my knee.

All the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could
Yes all the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could

I was out camping having lots of fun
Until I had to go to the bathroom
A swarm of wasps was at the latrine
They didn't look nice, in fact, they looked mean.

All the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could
Yes all the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could

I was playin' out in the wood pile
We were explorers and we found a reptile
As I reached under the bush, oh sick.
What crawled onto me was a nasty old tick.

All the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could
Yes all the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could

I was sitting out on the grass
I was minding my own business
When all of sudden there came after me
The ugliest, nastiest, meanest killer bee.

All the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could
Yes all the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could

Instrumental

All the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could
Yes all the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could

I was enjoying a lovely picnic
I remembered that nasty old tick
So I carefully sat far away from the bush
But a big old red ant bit me right on my tush.

All the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could
Yes all the bugs love me, oh I taste so good
I would bite them if only I could
Dirt Made My Lunch
Written by Steve Van Zandt
Performed by Mary Miche

Dirt made my lunch, dirt made my lunch
Thank you first, thanks a bunch
For my salad, my sandwich, my milk and my munch
Cause dirt you made my lunch

Dirt is a word we often use
When we talk about the earth beneath our shoes
It's a place where plants can sink their toes
And in a little while a garden grows

Dirt made my lunch, dirt made my lunch
Thank you first, thanks a bunch
For my salad, my sandwich, my milk and my munch
Cause dirt you made my lunch

A farmer's glow will tickle the ground
You know the earth has laughed when the wheat is found
The grain is taken and flour is ground
For making' a sandwich to munch on down

Dirt made my lunch, dirt made my lunch
Thank you first, thanks a bunch
For my salad, my sandwich, my milk and my munch
Cause dirt you made my lunch

Instrumental

Dirt made my lunch, dirt made my lunch
Thank you first, thanks a bunch
For my salad, my sandwich, my milk and my munch
Cause dirt you made my lunch

A stubby green beard grows upon the land
Out of the soil the grass will stand
But under the hoof it must bow
For making' milk by way of a cow.

Dirt made my lunch, dirt made my lunch
Thank you first, thanks a bunch
For my salad, my sandwich, my milk and my munch
Cause dirt you made my lunch

The Garden Song
Written by David Mallett
Performed by Mary Miche

Inch by inch, row by row
Gonna help this garden grow
Gonna mulch it deep below
Gonna make it fertile ground
Inch by inch, row by row
Please bless these seeds I sow
And warm them from below
Till the rains come a tumbling' down

Pullin' weeds, picking' stones
We are made of dreams and bones
Feel the need to grow our own
For the times are in our hands
Grain for grain, sun and rain
We are part of nature's chain
Tune your heart and tune your brain
To the music of the land

Inch by inch, row by row
Gonna help this garden grow
Gonna mulch it deep below
Gonna make it fertile ground
Inch by inch, row by row
Please bless these seeds I sow
And warm them from below
Till the rains come a tumbling' down

Plant your rows straight and long
Temper them with prayer and song
Mother Earth will make you strong
If you give her love and care
Day by day, send to sprout
From the inside pushing out
We keep growing everywhere

Inch by inch, row by row
Gonna help this garden grow
Gonna mulch it deep below
Gonna make it fertile ground
Inch by inch, row by row
Please bless these seeds I sow
And warm them from below
Till the rains come a tumbling' down

Instrumental

Dirt to soil, seed to sprout
This is what life's all about
From the garden reaching out
With food for many to share

Inch by inch, row by row
Gonna help this garden grow
Gonna mulch it deep below
Gonna make it fertile ground
Inch by inch, row by row
Please bless these seeds I sow
And warm them from below
Till the rains come a tumbling' down

Six Plant Parts
Written by Steve Van Zandt
Performed by Mary Miche

Roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds
Roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds
Roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds
That's roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds

That's six parts, six parts, six plant parts
That plants and people need

The roots hold the plant in the ground
They gather up the water that falls around
And there's a root inside of me.
Because carrot is a root I eat

That's six parts, six parts, six plant parts
That plants and people need

The stem is an elevator up from the ground
The water goes up and the sugar back down
And there's a stem inside of me
Cause celery is a stem I eat.

That's six parts, six parts, six plant parts
That plants and people need

The leaves are the kitchens where the food is done
They breathe the air and catch the rays of the sun
And there's a leaf inside of me
Cause lettuce is what I eat.

That's six parts, six parts, six plant parts
That plants and people need

The flowers are dressed to colorfully
They hold the pollen and attract the bees
And there's a flower inside of me
Cause cauliflower is a flower that I eat.

That's six parts, six parts, six plant parts
That plants and people need

The fruit gets ripe and is falls on the ground
It holds the seed and it seeds the ground
And there's a fruit inside of me
Cause apple is a fruit I eat.

That's six parts, six parts, six plant parts
That plants and people need

The seed gets buried in the earth
The cycle starts again with a new plant's birth
And there's a seed inside of me
Cause sunflower is a seed I eat.

That's six parts, six parts, six plant parts
That plants and people need

Now you know what this whole world needs
It's roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds
There's six plant parts inside of me
Cause a garden salad is what I eat

That's six parts, six parts, six plant parts
That plants and people need

Roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruit, and seeds
Roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruit, and seeds

Six parts, six parts, six parts, six parts
Six parts, six parts, six parts, six parts

That's six parts, six parts, six plant parts
That plants and people need

The Sprout Song
Written by Bill Brennan
Performed by Mary Miche

Wet ground, warm sun
My life as a tree has just begun
I'm so sure I have no doubt
Cause my shell is cracked
And I have a sprout
It's growing up and growing out
And growing up and growing out
Yipee Hooray I am a sprout
Yipee Hooray I have a sprout
Yipee Hooray I am a sprout
Yipee Hooray I have a sprout
Hey I'm a seed too and I need...

Wet ground, warm sun
My life as a tree has just begun
I'm so sure I have no doubt
Cause my shell is cracked
And I have a sprout
It's growing up and growing out
And growing up and growing out
Yipee Hooray I am a sprout
Yipee Hooray I have a sprout
Yipee Hooray I am a sprout
Yipee Hooray I have a sprout

Hey You Big Guys
Written by Bill Brennan
Performed by Mary Miche

In the forest a young tree grows
So small and so alive
It sings a song if you want to know
Just how hard it tries
Now listen it's singing in the wind
And the song is making the big trees grin
"Hey you big guys, let me have some sun
Yeah the sun is for everyone
Hey what's the matter, you act like you can't hear,
Oh forget it, I'll grow over here
Gonna grow over here, gonna grow over here."
With sunshine energy, sunshine energy
Sunshine energy, sunshine energy
Gonna grow over here, gonna grow over here
Gonna grow over here

In the forest a young tree grows
So small and so alive
It sings a song if you want to know
Just how hard it tries
Now listen it's singing in the wind
And the song is making the big trees grin
"Hey you big guys, let me have some sun
Yeahthe sun is for everyone
Hey what's the matter, you act like you can't hear,
Oh forget it, I'll grow over here
Gonna grow over here, gonna grow over here."
With sunshine energy, sunshine energy
Sunshine energy, sunshine energy
Gonna grow over here, gonna grow over here
Gonna grow over here
Bugs in Your Bark
Written by Bill Brennan
Performed by Mary Miche

This bark on me is my skin
It keeps diseases out and tree juices in
It protects me from bugs, dust, and wind
Even though, sometimes, the bugs get in
So the woodpeckers come and they make their mark
Sayin' "Knock, knock, knock we're hungry
And there's bugs in your bark"
And it's "Knock, knock, knock we're hungry
And there's bugs in your bark"
But when the bark breaks disease may get in
Killing me, just because of broken skin
Just because of broken skin, just because...

This bark on me is my skin
It keeps diseases out and tree juices in
It protects me from bugs, dust, and wind
Even though, sometimes, the bugs get in
So the woodpeckers come and they make their mark
Sayin' "Knock, knock, knock we're hungry
And there's bugs in your bark"
And it's "Knock, knock, knock we're hungry
And there's bugs in your bark"
But when the bark breaks disease may get in
Killing me, just because of broken skin
Just because of broken skin, just because...
What is a Tree?
Written by Bill Brennan
Performed by Mary Miche

What is a tree, does anybody really know?
Just what they are, and just how they really grow?
What do they need, and what do they do?
What are they used for, and by whom?

Oh yes, I tried to find out
Went down to the forest and I took a look out
I saw that trees are alive
They're born and they live and they die
For trees are big plants
That bend when the wind gives them the chance

Oh yes, I tried to find out
Went down to the library and I took a book out
I read that trees grow in earth
They need water and sunshine from birth
And the trunk and branches are wood
That grow in the Spring like trees should

Oh yes, I tried to find out
Went down to the building site heard the carpenter shout,
"I use trees that have been cut down
But to fit them together they can't be round,
So the sawmill makes their edge square
So I can build house and schools anywhere."

Oh yes, I tried to find out
Went down to the forest heard the birdies sing out,
"I use trees for my home
From one to the other I roam
In the trees I build my nest
Cause that's where my babies are protected best."
Lotta Seeds Grow
Written by Tom Hunter
Performed by Mary Miche

Lotta trees start from seeds so small
Ya gotta look close or you can't see 'em at all
It's hard to believe trees grow so tall.
From seeds that start so small
Well the sun comes up, the sun comes up
And the rain comes down, and the rain comes down
And the seeds get planted in the fertile ground
If you listen real close, you can hear the sound
Of trees starting' to grow

Lotta flowers start from seeds so small
Ya gotta look close or you can't see 'em at all
It's hard to believe flowers grow so tall.
From seeds that start so small
Well the sun comes up, the sun comes up
And the rain comes down, and the rain comes down
And the seeds get planted in the fertile ground
If you listen real close, you can hear the sound
Of flowers starting' to grow

Lotta corn start from seeds so small
Ya gotta look close or you can't see 'em at all
It's hard to believe corn grow so tall.
From seeds that start so small
Well the sun comes up, the sun comes up
And the rain comes down, and the rain comes down
And the seeds get planted in the fertile ground
